SDG Implementation through Technology? Governing Food-Water-Technology Nexus Challenges in Urban Agriculture

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasizes the importance of technology as a pillar implementation Goals (SDGs). Technology innovation promises benefits especially SDG 2 to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, promote sustainable agriculture. Contributing current debates on implementation, innovation, cross-sectoral governance, we argue that carries both potential contribute global goal risk posing new governance challenges. Applying food-water-technology nexus (FWTN) perspective, conduct case study an emerging in urban agricultural production Germany. connects wastewater treatment system projects transformation conventional sewage plant into ‘NEWtrient®-Center,’ which draws essential resources hydroponic cultivation from municipal wastewater. Building qualitative participatory research methods, provides deeper insights implications FWTN issues stemming technology. analysis shows this has facilitate but simultaneously fuels sector interlinkages between water policy demands substantiate need more integrated policymaking ensure smart use reach SDGs.
